 Taxing Times in Nova Scotia

Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) wants to raise your commercial property taxes by 8%. PVSC, the provincial assessment authority, is raising your assessment in HRM by an average of 5.4% to 15.8%. And that is the good news! The assessment increase for about 40% of properties will be in the double digits. It is not quite as dire outside HRM but your property is likely to be hit with the same double whammy… an increased assessment plus a higher property tax rate.

City at the Crossroads.

Moncton, located at the heart of the Maritimes, acts as a distribution centre for the Atlantic Region. Its industrial parks contain 23% of the aggregate rentable industrial space in the Region and its Central Business District 13% of the total rentable office area. Not so long ago it looked to be HRM’s nemesis: has it now lost its swagger?

We Haven’t Measured This, Yet!

Built in 100 – 110 AD by Appollodorus of Damascus, Trajan’s Market is one of the earliest mixed-use complexes in the world. A multi-level extravaganza of shops, offices and apartments it still stands today. How many of our multi-level developments will be able to claim that longevity? For our Lasercad team, hope springs eternal.

New Figures for New Times

Picture this: your business is booming, clients who have held off on visiting your office over the past two years are comfortable with meeting in person again, and your business projections for the next few years look promising. Sounds great, right? But with all of this positivity comes a fairly significant challenge: your current lease is soon coming to an end, and you need to upsize your spatial footprint to keep up with rapidly-increasing business demands. This is where an experienced broker can help.

From Sun to Snow.

He swapped sun for snow to be here. We introduce our new colleague (complete with sweater) fresh from the Persian Gulf.

In the Bleak Midwinter.

Tonight in HRM, as snow gusts in from the Atlantic, over 700 shivering souls will huddle in tents, below tarpaulins, beneath dank underpasses, in shop doorways, anywhere that offers some shelter from the storm. You and I know some, perhaps many, of them; former university or high school classmates, colleagues, neighbours, friends, relatives, enemies even… together we can do something about it.
